Roses is thought to be the oldest town in Catalonia and is steeped in history. Greek traders of the 8th century BC named it after their home town of Rhodes. Its great climate of hot summers and warm winters attracts many discerning visitors and residents because, along with the other Costa Brava resorts, it has a very different feel to the resorts of southern Spain.
While there are no rows of high rise apartments, English bars and night clubs, nevertheless, Roses has an abundance of restaurants, Spanish bars and cafés which cater for all tastes. There is an increasing number of international residents, with German, Dutch and French communities and a growing British contingent. Tourists particularly enjoy the beach area which has great investment and rental potential. However, Roses is also a lovely place for a home. It has an abundance of local housing and close by are the urbanisations. Some of these are set in the foothills of the lower Pyrenees and their luxurious villas have fantastic views over the Bay of Roses. |
