Within The Bay of Roses area there are many different activities for people of all ages to enjoy. However, the wonderful climate and natural features obviously lead to an emphasis on outdoor life. For example, children's recreational activities include horse riding, go-carting, having fun in Europe’s largest aqua park and of course, enjoying the sea and beaches along with their families.
Adults particularly enjoy the many local golf courses, including the renowned Peralada course. For the more adventurous there is the all year round sky diving centre in Empuriabrava. If you look into the sky at any time of day, there are usually 10 or more parachutes to be seen making their way gently down to the ground. Water sports enthusiasts have plenty to do, such as jet skiing, windsurfing and diving on the long beaches. Empuriabrava has been built around recreational sailing and power boats or you can take a boat trip around the canals. There is a well-equipped sailing centre in Roses. For nature lovers, the National Bird Park and Animal Sanctuary is the largest of its kind in northern Spain. The Tourist Office in Roses is the best place to start when looking for information on local activities. British “ex-pats” can join in with The British Society of Catalonia which holds regular social gatherings. This is not only a great way to make new friends and stay in touch with other local British people, it also provides a good support system and an excellent source of information. For those who love to shop, there is an abundance of opportunity in the villages, towns and nearby cities. Local markets sell fruit, vegetables, meat and fish and other interesting items ranging from clothes to crafts. Figueres is 15 minutes away by car, Barcelona 1hour 30minutes, Gerona 45minutes, and Perpignan (France) is 1 hour away. However, the public transport system in Catalonia is very good, cheap and reliable, and sometimes a great deal more fun! |
