Catalonia is the north-eastern corner of the Spanish Iberian peninsula which stretches from the French and Andorran frontiers with northern Spain, to the Mediterranean Costa Brava to the east, and the region of Aragon to the west. With its own language, customs and separate cultural identity, Catalonia has had considerable autonomy since the restoration of democracy in the late 1970s, and its people refer to themselves as Catalans. Empuriabrava is the beautiful resort that surrounds Europe’s largest marina. Established in 1967, it consists of a grid-pattern of attractive, residence-lined canals situated just inland from the beaches. Residents and tourists park their yachts and boats alongside these luxurious villas and apartments, all of which have private moorings at the bottom of their gardens.

Santa Margarita is situated between Roses and Empuriabrava. It has its own, much smaller, canal system with beautiful villas for sale that, like Empuriabrava, have their own moorings at the end of the garden. Santa Margarita is a great location for both holiday rental investments such as an apartment on the beach, or for a home, for example a villa in the more quite residential areas. With plenty of restaurants, local shops and an abundance of activities all adding to its sparkle, you will find that there is a real international feel about Santa Margarita. |

Roses is thought to be the oldest town in Catalonia and is steeped in history. Greek traders of the 8th century BC named it after their home town of Rhodes. The Bay of Roses has many different urbanisations, a sample of which is mentioned below. However, Charlesworth Property Services would, of course, cover all urbanisations in searching for your ideal property. Nestled at the foot of the Pyrenees and around the towns are various urbanisations. Just outside Roses you can find Mas Fumats, Mas Buscas, Canyelles Petites and Mas Olivars which is close to the beach, restaurants and shops. The typically traditional Catalan villages of Palau-Saverdera and Pau are surrounded by fields full of olive trees and grape vines and have lovely views over the Bay of Roses. The beach resorts are about 7 to 10 km away. The villages have wonderful restaurants, local shops and community centers that serve the local population well. Palau-Saverdera has a Catalan school that has a very good reputation. There is a great mix of old and new properties in these villages, many with their own swimming pools, and the significant point about them is that they do not attract as many tourists as the areas closer to the beaches. |

Located just 40km over the French border in the Spanish foothills of the Pyrenees is the beautiful Bay of Roses, where the stunning local scenery combines mountains, villages and long Mediterranean beaches. The shore is scattered with the typically Spanish costal resorts, of Santa Margarita, Empuriabrava and the fishing port of Roses all the way down to L' Escala. The all year round sunshine helps to make this a vibrant community that is not just made of tourists, but locals of all nationalities. Read more... |
